Project
This is an exciting opportunity to undertake a PhD in medical research on a project that will truly make a difference to the lives of individuals affected by rare immunological diseases. The project will focus on the development of a diagnostic blood test, as well as a completely new treatment, for specific forms of autoinflammatory disease. These genetic disorders appear in infancy and prevent the normal biosynthesis of isoprenoid lipids via the mevalonate pathway, causing potentially lethal flares of inflammation throughout the body.
You should have an undergraduate background in biochemistry, physiology or a related subject (Hons 1 or 2.1) and a strong desire to learn varied skills in protein analysis, flow cytometry, single-cell and spatial transcriptomics, histology, imaging, bioinformatics and preclinical models.
A high degree of enthusiasm, motivation and initiative is essential!
To discuss the project informally in the first instance (no fixed deadline), please contact Prof Mike Rogers (m.rogers@garvan.org.au).
